2. TRADITIONAL TEACHING VS. 21ST CENTURY TEACHING
During our Field Studies or observation, our eyes were slowly being opened by the issues and problems we have in our country, Philippines is a third-world county and one of its major problem is on its educational system. Students are being required to embrace the 21st century skills and teachers are expected to use technology for their instruction and as much as possible, lessen the use of the traditional way of teaching.
First, let us know what is the difference between the traditional way of teaching or the the 20th century teaching and the alternative way of teaching or the 21st century teaching.
TRADITIONAL TEACHING
•We defined this as a pen and paper way of teaching mainly because the activities are copied on board and the students answered using a pen and paper.
• This kind of teaching is teacher centered, meaning the teacher is the host of the class and the students talkless.
• This type of teaching is inevitable since they are using this way of teaching many years ago.
• It didn't provide oppotunities for the students to enhance their communication skills.
21st CENTURY TEACHING
•The students talk more.
•Mixture of the traditional and alternative way of teaching.
•It is performanced based. The teacher make use of roleplay, research, or group reporting or discussion as their project activity.
•The collaboration, communication, creativity and critical-thinking of the students were tapped.
•The use of computers and other technolgy based materials are the major partners of the teachers to effectively deliver the content or lesson.
Now, how can a country adapt this way of teaching if they lack fund for the materials or resources for the school,if therre is not enough computers to be used and if there's no electricity for these students who need education? This issue and problems were global, not only in our country. We believe that this issue will not hinder us and all the teachers and future educators but there to continue teaching because THESE children NEED us, we are needed by the world . We are being called as a catalyst of change and with this website, let's hold hands and embrace the change that the world bring us and let's held the torch high for the children. Enjoy!
